48 school teachers to receive National Teachers Awards 2026 from President Murmu

President Droupadi Murmu will confer the National Teachers Awards 2026 on 48 school teachers at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, today, Teachers’ Day. The awardees have been selected from across the country for their contribution to improving school education and transforming the learning experiences of students.

The 48 awardees represent 27 states, seven Union Territories and six organisations of the Central Government. The group includes 26 male and 22 female teachers. The award ceremony will also feature short documentaries showcasing the work of each awardee.

The National Teachers Awards are organised annually by the Department of School Education and Literacy under the Ministry of Education. The awards recognise teachers who have demonstrated innovation, commitment and sustained efforts to improve the quality of school education and enrich



students' lives.

On the eve of Teachers' Day on September 4, the Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi also interacted with the recipients of the 2026 National Teachers Awards. The ministers of state for educationn, Jayant Singh and Sukanta Majumdar were also present.

During the interaction, as per the ministry's social media handle, the Union Education Minister said: "Teachers must prepare children for ushering in #ViksitBharat2027. Students are the ultimate wealth of the nation and they should be groomed to become all-rounded individuals...."

The 2026 selection followed a multi-stage process involving district, state and national-level scrutiny. Teachers were invited to submit their nominations online, after which shortlisted candidates underwent further selection and interaction with the independent national jury.
