Padma Shri Indian playwright Tarak Mehta passes away at the age of 87, on Wednesday. Mehta was a renowned Indian humorist best known for his Gujarati columns in Duniya Ne Undha Chashma. Apart from being a playwright and a humorist he was also a prolific writer. He has translated and adapted several comedies into Gujarati and has been a well-known figure in the Gujarati theater too.
The renowned writer passed away after



prolonged illness at the age of 87. He has published 80 books, over the years; three books are based on the columns he wrote in Gujarati newspaper Divya Bhaskar while rests were compiled from the stories in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah; the popular show on Sab TV which soon went on to become a primary show of the channel.
He was also awarded the fourth highest civilian award of India, the Padma Shri in the year 2015.
