Hyderabad: A 25-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide after hanging herself in her in-laws’ house at MS Maqta on Sunday night, reportedly due to harassment for additional dowry.

The woman, Shahzia Tabassum, was married to Mohammed Omer, 30, in 2017. “Her family have lodged a complaint saying Omer along with his mother and brothers were regularly torturing Tabassum for additional dowry. The couple was previously counselled and Tabassum, who had gone to her parents because of the harassment, was sent back



to her in-laws,” the Punjagutta police said.

On Sunday night, she allegedly hanged herself to death in Omer’s house. Though she was rushed to a hospital by Omer and his relatives, doctors declared her brought dead, police said.

The body was shifted to the Osmania General Hospital morgue where an autopsy was conducted, after which the body was handed over to the family. A case has been booked against Omer and his relatives.
