Hyderabad: Upset after her father scolded her for playing games on the mobile phone, a teenage girl died, allegedly by suicide, in her house at Sarvodaya Nagar Colony in Meerpet around midnight on Sunday.

The victim was identified as Kaushiki (17), an intermediate second year student from a private college. According to the police, Kaushiki had been often found playing games on her mobile phone for several hours. Her father Manohara Chary had warned her a few times earlier against excessive usage of the phone, particularly for playing games.

On Sunday night night,

after seeing her playing, Chary scolded her and asked her to focus on her studies instead. “The father and daughter had a brief heated argument over it, during which, the girl suddenly rushed to her room, latched the door from inside and hanged herself from the ceiling fan with a saree. Her family members forcibly opened the door and shifted her to the hospital, where she died later under treatment,” an official said.

The Meerpet police booked a case and took up investigation. The body was shifted to the Osmania General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
