A 45-year-old man, working as an associate director with an international software firm in the city robbed by a stranger.

The man, a resident of Begumpet, believed the fervent pleas of a youngster he met at an ATM on February 27, and within minutes of meeting, gave him Rs.1 lakh. This was after the latter convinced him that he would return the money immediately via online transfer. However, a purported message showing that the cash was credited to the victim’s account turned out to be a false one and by the time he realised this, the conman had fled the spot, switching off his phone as

well.

The suspect was finally nabbed on Friday by the Hyderabad Central Crime Station police from Andhra Pradesh, with the police saying the suspect, I.Rama Rao (28) from Razole of East Godavari, was involved in several attention diversion cases targeting customers at ATM centres. In the guise of exchanging cash for online transaction, he cheated many by showing a fake ‘transaction completed’ message and fled.

He was involved in 27 cases in Telangana and AP and was last arrested by the SR Nagar police in a cheating case. It was after being released on bail that he cheated the software employee on February 27.
