In a major crackdown, a team of the District Crime Cell arrested a 35-year-old Nigerian national near sector 39 on Tuesday and 300 grams of heroin worth Rs 1.12 crore was recovered.

Police have identified the accused as Davis, who is a resident of Dwarka in New Delhi.

According to police, the accused travelled from Delhi to Chandigarh to sell narcotic substances to some of his regular customers who had given him an advance two days prior. In the international market, a 300 grams of heroin — which falls within the category of commercial amount — is worth Rs 1.12 crore. A team from the District Crime Cell apprehended him.

Under the NDPS Act, suspects convicted of having narcotics in commercial quantities are sentenced to life in prison.
Inspector Narendra Patial, in charge of the District Crime Cell, claimed that a squad was on routine patrol when the accused was discovered standing by the

roadside in suspicious circumstances. His interrogation resulted in the recovery of heroin.

During the first interrogation of the accused, it was discovered that he travelled to India on a study visa in 2019 from Nigeria in order to enrol in the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in New Delhi. He afterwards joined a gang of his countrymen who were already involved in illegal drug trafficking.

According to sources, Davies began distributing the consignments in Delhi and neighbouring areas. He used to take internet payments in advance for the drugs.

Despite Davies' assertion that his study visa is valid from 2019 to 2022, police said they chose to examine the validity of his visa and other documents at the New Delhi foreign registration office.
The accused will be produced before a local court on Wednesday for his police custody. At sector 39 police station a case was registered against him.
