Hyderabad: A 64-year-old man was on Thursday arrested by Panjagutta police for trying to force a 23-year-old woman to have sex with him.

Reportedly, he lured her with a proposal to be a surrogate mother to his child and offered huge money.

Identifying the accused as Surappa Raju, police said he entered into an agreement with the victim. Later, he forced her to give birth to a child in a natural way.

According to the police, the victim, under financial duress, agreed to bear a child through surrogacy for which Raju offered Rs 4.5 lakh and a monthly allowance of Rs 10,000 till delivery. On February 11, he took her to Birla Mandir on the pretext of praying for a child. Later, he insisted she sleep with him and give birth to a child without surrogacy and offered her an additional amount of Rs 50,000, which she outright rejected.

Later, the accused started threatening her on phone. Frustrated and vexed with the mental anguish, she informed her husband and they both approached Panjagutta police station and lodged a complaint.

The police booked a case of sexual harassment and criminal intimidation and arrested the accused. He was subsequently sent to judicial remand.
