Thiruvananthapuram: A man allegedly trapped a 35-year-old woman in a drug recovery case in Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram, reportedly after she rejected his marriage proposal. A police probe, however, revealed that she was falsely implicated in the case. Consequently, she was given a clean chit by the police.

Shobha Viswanath, who runs a clothing store in Thiruvananthapuram, separated from her husband six years ago. Her divorce proceedings are underway. On January 21 this year, Museum police raided her store and seized 480 gm of ganja. Subsequently, she was arrested under relevant sections.

Viswanath was granted bail in the case since the quantity of narcotic substance recovered from her store was less than 1 kg. She approached the chief minister for justice, stating that there was a conspiracy. The crime branch then conducted a probe that revealed that Viswanath was innocent. The probe revealed that Harish, who is Viswanath's family

friend, trapped her in the case, in order to take revenge against her after she rejected his marriage proposal, according to a report by The Times of India.

Harish, a UK-based businessman, is the son of the founder of a well-known hospital in the city. He is a divorcee. Two years ago, he had proposed Viswanath for marriage. She, however, rejected his proposal, and after that, she had no contact with him. Harish got her arrested in the narcotic case to exact revenge.

"The probe was conducted by DSP S Amminikuttan. The probe team had found some suspicious movements of a maid while examining the surveillance camera footage of the store. On questioning, she revealed the involvement of Vivek. He had visited the store once and asked the maid to turn off the camera," the report stated.

The police have arrested Vivek for his alleged involvement in trapping Viswanath in the drugs case. Harish's arrest is yet to be recorded.
