Girl jumps from hostel building in Hyderabad, critical

Accused of stealing a fellow student’s money, an engineering II year student attempted suicide by jumping from the fourth floor of her college hostel at Maisammaguda on Wednesday night. The girl, Sandhya, 19, daughter of Bhuma Reddy, from Jagityal, suffered multiple injuries and is reportedly critical.

Sandhya is a civil engineering student of Malla Reddy College of Engineering at Maisammaguda, Dhulapally. On Wednesday night, according to police, Sandhya’s room-mates complained to the hostel warden about petty thefts being committed in their room. When a locker of Sandhya was opened, a pair of shorts of a student from an adjacent room and some money, which reportedly belongs to her room-mates, were found.

Subsequently, according to the room-mates of Sandhya and the college management, she admitted of her mistake before the warden and returned the items to their respective owners. After that, Sandhya’s room-mates went to hostel mess and picked



up food to eat in their rooms. They also brought food for Sandhya. While the other girls were having food, they heard a loud noise. “The girls came out of the room and saw Sandhya was lying on the floor in front of the hostel building. 

They suspected that she jumped from the fourth floor of the hostel and college staff immediately shifted the girl to nearby hospital. Sandhya, who suffered multiple injuries, underwent surgery and her condition is critical,” Petbasheerabad inspector M Mahesh said. Sandhya’s father Bhuma Reddy said he received a call from Sandhya’s phone on Wednesday night, but one of her friends spoke and asked if he had deposited money in the past two days in her bank account. “I said I did not. Then, Sandhya spoke to me and said everything was fine. Later in the night, I was informed that she was admitted to hospital,” Reddy said. An attempt to commit suicide case was registered.
