Two doctors from Medipally have been arrested for conducting prenatal sex determination tests on pregnant women at a private clinic.

The Medipally police received a tip off that doctors at Venkateshwara Diagnostic centre in Budha Nagar in Peerzadiguda, were conducting prenatal sex determination test on pregnant women.

A decoy operation was conducted with the help of a pregnant woman police constable working in She Teams to find the facts. The police found that Dr Chanda Vijaya Kumar, 34, and his wife Dr Chanda  Swathi, 33, were



conducting prenatal sex determination tests. 

“Upon investigation, it came to light that they were running the diagnostic centre without permission. Based on their confession, a scanning machine, Rs 6,000 cash and two mobile phones were seized from the clinic and the couple was booked under Sections 420 and 406 of IPC, and Section 23 Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act and produced before the III Metropolitan Magistrate court for judicial remand,” said Medipally inspector B. Anji Reddy.
