Hyderabad: A doctor approached the Hyderabad Cybercrime police on Thursday saying he was cheated by fraudsters who promised to sell him N95 masks online.

In view of the coronavirus pandemic and subsequent implementation of the ‘Mask On’ policy, the doctor while searching for masks online, came across a seller and placed an order.

Police said the doctor immediately received a call from a

person who promised to deliver the masks at a reasonable rate, which the doctor believed. He was asked to transfer half the amount of the order, about Rs 56,000, which he did. However, when he did not receive the masks even after a week and the phones appeared to be switched off, he realised he was cheated and he approached the police.

The case is being investigated.
