New Delhi: A woman died after she was shot in the neck allegedly by her son at their residence in Mundka locality of the national capital on September 1. The accused, identified as Sandeep, was arrested on September 7 following a massive manhunt.

On the night of September 1, the police received information that a woman has been shot by her son in Mundka area. Subsequently, the police rushed to the spot, but the accused had fled by then. The injured woman, identified as Roshni, was dashed to Action Balaji Hospital in Paschim Vihar. On September 6 night, she died during treatment at the medical facility.

The police lodged a case of murder under the Indian Penal Code and initiated efforts to nab the deceased woman's son, Sandeep. A massive chase involving raids at over 100 hideouts, analysis of footage of

around 150 CCTV cameras, questioning of over 100 people led to the arrest of the accused on September 7. A few live cartridges, at least two pistols, and a dummy pistol are among the seizures of the police in the case.

The arrestee, during interrogation, told the police that he got married to one Ritu in 2017. Five years ago, they two were blessed with a baby girl. The couple's marital life, however, deteriorated and Ritu began living with her parents.

After this, Sandeep -- who was employed as a driver -- quit his job and developed liquor addiction. His mother, Roshini, used to warn him to mend his ways. This often led to arguments between the mother-son duo. One such argument broke out between them on the night of September 1. As the argument escalated, Sandeep, in a fit of rage, shot Roshini in the neck.
