The alleged rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl by a 14-year-old boy in the outskirts of Lucknow has sent shockwaves across the state capital.
Police said the accused had an accomplice of the same age.
The girl, a class II student, had gone out of her house in Banthra to play on Wednesday evening but did not return. When her parents searched for her, they found her half-naked body later in the night barely 500 metres away from her house.
Station officer, Banthra, Shiv Shankar Singh said initial probe suggested that the boy took the girl to a secluded place on the pretext of giving her mangoes. He allegedly raped her and smothered her when she started crying.
Singh

said the boy, who does not go to school, returned to his house after committing the crime and locked himself in a room. The accused is the youngest of three brothers. The girl had an elder brother.
He said some villagers who had spotted the boy with the girl, identified him. "The boy has confessed to his crime during questioning. He has mentioned the involvement of another boy in the crime. The role of the other boy is yet to be ascertained," he said.
The boy has been sent to the counseling cell of the police.
Singh said the girl's body was sent for post-mortem examination and a probe was on.
The families of the victim and the accused are involved in farming.
