Hyderabad: A young woman was murdered by her brother allegedly over a fight as she was speaking over the phone with her boyfriend at Kothur in Ranga Reddy district on Monday evening.
The victim, identified as D Ruchitha (21), who had completed her degree, was waiting to join an MBA course. She was staying with her parents Raghavendra, Sunitha and two siblings at Penjarla village in Kothur mandal.
According to the police, Ruchitha was in love with a young man from the same village. However, her parents were against their relationship, but the young lovers continued to talk to each other over the phone.
Earlier, the family members from both sides, in the presence of elders, worked out a compromise and warned the youngsters not to talk to each other, and
they agreed to it.
However, phone conversations had started again recently between them. Ruchitha’s younger brother Rohith (20), who was against it, had been scolding her over the same.
On Monday, when their parents went to work, only Ruchitha and Rohith were at home. At this time, Rohith allegedly noticed Ruchitha talking to her boyfriend over the phone and started a fight with her.
Following a heated argument, he allegedly strangled her to death with a wire in anger.
When their parents returned in the evening, he told them Ruchitha had fallen unconscious. They understood she was killed and informed the police.
The Kothur police are investigating.
