Hyderabad: A BDS student, pursuing her final year from Khammam’s Mamatha medical college, died by suicide in a hostel room on Saturday. Police suspect that family disputes might have led her to take the extreme step. The deceased was identified as Samudrala Manasa, 22, a native of Warangal.

According to police, Manasa was staying in a hostel located near the college. Students and hostel management personnel went to the room when they found something amiss, and found that Manasa had collapsed on the ground.

They immediately alerted 108 medical emergency services and the police, who found her dead. Police informed her parents in

Warangal. The body was shifted for postmortem. Khammam urban police registered a case of death under suspicious circumstances.

Prima facie, police said the suicide was linked to family matters. News of the death caused much anxiety as it came after the suicide of Dr D. Preethi, a postgraduate student at the Kakatiya Medical College, under controversial circumstances. Her senior Dr Mohd Saif is under probe in that incident.

Two medicos have committed suicide in recent months: 21-year-old MBBS third year student M. Sanath in March and Dasari Harsha, 22, a fourth year student, in Frbruary.
