Patna: A teenage girl and her boyfriend were allegedly murdered by her family who opposed their relationship. The teen couple was found hanging from a tree in the Jamui district of Bihar on Tuesday. Reportedly, this is the second such killing in the district in six months.

Reportedly, the teenage girl and her lover hailed from the same community and were in love. On Monday, the two victims had gone to a temple to get married. Allegedly, the girl told her mother that she was going for some work while the boy went out to buy sugar.

Accused saw teen with vermillion marks on her head

Jamui police superintendent Pramod Kumar Mandal said, "It was a case of sudden provocation as the girl's father and others got agitated on seeing her with the boy and the girl with vermilion marks on her head at a temple. "

As per preliminary probe, three of the girl's brothers-in-law, who have been accused of the murders, have a criminal record, Hindustan Times reported. The police said that the alleged murders were spontaneous.

The police said that some of the villagers saw the teenagers in the temple and alerted the girl's father. Her father and other relatives allegedly flew into a rage over the incident and reached the temple.

The accused allegedly dragged the couple to a field and allegedly strangled them to death. Following this, the accused hanged the teenagers' bodies from a tree.

The police deployed personnel in the area as villagers staged a protest and demanded the accused's arrest. The girl's father has been nabbed while the others are on the run.
