South Central Railway (SCR) has achieved its highest-ever freight loading for the last month, by recording 12.36 million tonnes (MTS) in April this year. This marks a significant increase from the previous record of 11.64 MTS set during the same period last year, showing over 6 per cent growth.
This growth was mainly due to a sharp rise in the loading of iron ore and cement. An official release stated that Cement loading reached 3.24 MTS, with an 18 per cent increase from last year. Iron ore loading rose to 0.765 MTS, up by 39 per cent. Coal remained the major contributor with
6.100 MTS, slightly lower than that of last year. Other key commodities also showed positive performance. Food grains rose to 0.50 MTS, raw materials for steel plants increased to 0.43 MTS, and other goods reached 0.63 MTS.
However, fertiliser and container loadings saw a small decline. SCR has focused on improving freight services by streamlining wagon supply and monitoring train movements. General Manager Arun Kumar Jain appreciated the team’s coordination, especially during ongoing infrastructure work and special train operations.
