New Delhi: Kenyan Avocado was launched in the Indian Market yesterday in an event jointly organized by the Kenya High Commission and ASSOCHAM in New Delhi. Avocados are nutrient-dense and a good source of mono-saturated acids.
On the occasion, Deputy Secretary of the East and Southern Africa Division under the External Affairs Ministry Swadha Rizvi said that avocado is not just to be seen as a product but as a cultural gateway between both nations. She added that Avocado represents the history, culture, and emotions of Kenya and has the power to bind countries and their people together.

Ms Rizvi said that this will definitely improve bilateral relations with robust and multi-faceted partnerships and called this a milestone in the diplomacy of the two countries. She said that the Indian government is confident that Avocado market access will help both countries to strengthen trade

On the occasion, the Deputy High Commissioner of Kenya to India Amb. Irene Oloo shared her insights on how Kenya exports about 23 per cent of the production of avocado. She said that the increased production of avocados in Kenya calls for increased market access.
Addressing the gathering, ASSOCHAM MSDC Co-Chairman Dr Umesh Kamble highlighted the nutritional value of avocado and called it green gold. He further said that consumption of avocados is growing in India with respect to additional health benefits but the availability is less. Dr Kamble said that it is a value-added product for Agribusiness and to further boost the consumption of avocados in India. Kenya is the world's sixth-largest avocado producer. The increased production of Avocados in Kenya calls for increased market access. It is for this reason that Kenya requested India to allow market access for Kenyan Avocados.
