The government has launched a host of online initiatives including a mobile App 'Smart Consumer' and an 'Online Consumer Mediation Centre (OCMC)' to provide speedy redressal of consumer grievances. 
The initiatives were unveiled by Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan at a function in New Delhi on the occasion of National Consumer Day. A helpline 14404 was also launched for conusmer related grievances.Speaking on the Mr Paswan said, this is the age of technology and educating the consumer and redressing his grievances in this digital world is a challenge.

Besides, another initiative Microsite based on the theme Digitally Safe Consumer Campaign was also launched to help consumers for being vigilant and not falling prey to cyber frauds. 
Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan also said that Consumer Protection Bill, is at an advanced stage and has a provision for mediation.He said, the new bill has stringent provisions against misleading advertisements and unfair trade practices. The Minister said, celebrities should check facts about the products before doing endorsement.
