Bengaluru:  World's third largest luxury car maker BMW India today launched a souped-up version of its premium sports activity car X6 coupe for Rs 1.15 crore ex-showroom, national.

The 6-liter, 8-speed machine is the second generation of the X6 Series and is being sold as a completely built unit and will be available for sale across the BMW showrooms from today, BMW India Group president Philipp von Sahr told reporters here.

He said the X6 coupe is the only sports activity coupe in the world, adding "BMW established the sports activity coupe segment with the introduction of X6 series."

Launching the high-end version, Sahr said, "Luxury has always been written with an X. To the very last detail, the new X6 offers a unique synthesis of luxury, sporting dynamics and powerful style creating an excitingly different driving experience for our customers.

"The car sports a 313 hp diesel engine and attain the top speed of 240 kmph in 4.8 seconds and can easily speed through both on-road and off-road conditions," he added.  The superior handling characteristics and thrilling driving dynamics bends the laws of physics, instantly propelling this exceptional vehicle to its rightful position as the king of the road, Sahr said.

A coupe car offers the motorist the combined experience of a sports SUV as well as the comfort of a luxe sedan, he added.

Sahr reiterated his company's plan to launch 10 more models this year having already launched five and take the number of dealers to 50 from 39 now. But he refused to put a number to sales



target or market share.

The car also offers a comprehensive range of BMW ConnectedDrive features with numerous optional driver assistance systems, pioneering infotainment and unique connectivity.   

The BMW Group, which is the world's top luxe car maker, was the No. 1 here too till 2012, when it lost out to compatriot Audi.

Since then it has been at No. 3 position. The group has three brands in the country -- BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce apart from the BMW brand of high end motorbikes.

Since its entry into the country as fully-owned subsidiary of the German parent, the company has invested Rs 490 crore into the country including the assembly line in Chennai which has an installed capacity of 14,000 units, a parts warehouse in Mumbai, a training centre in Gurgaon and 39 dealer networks across major cities apart from 12 BMW Premium Selection, which is its used car business and the BMW Finance.

The Chennai plant rolls out 8 models -- 1 Series, the 3 Series, the 3 Series Gran Turismo, the 5 Series, the 7 Series, the X1, the X3 and the X5, while of its  CBUs include the 6 Series Gran Coupe, ActiveHybrid 7, the X6, the Z4, the M3 Sedan, the M4 Coupe, the M5 Sedan, the M6 Gran Coupe, the 6 Series Individual and the 7 Series Individual.

BMW's international purchasing office in Gurgaon identifies and assesses potential suppliers for BMW, Mini, and BMW Motorcycles. Currently the company sources components which include engines from Force Motors and gear-boxes and wiring among others from local eight component manufacturers.
