AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi on Tuesday said imposition of governor’s rule in Jammu and Kashmir would only be a prelude to more repression. “I appeal to the people of Kashmir to remain calm. I feel sorry for them but I have no sympathy for the PDP which has brought this disaster upon itself,” he said in an interaction with the media on Tuesday after the BJP announced that it was pulling out of the Mehbooba Mufti government.

Owaisi said no serious effort was made by the PDP-BJP coalition to stop crossborder terrorism and attacks on Army camps. Asked if he had any advice for Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Kashmir, he said: “Prime Minister Narendra Modi is someone who only issues ‘firmaans’ (orders) and not someone who has a bent of mind to take any advice.” Owaisi said whatever Kashmir doctrine the BJP had was a complete failure. He said PDP’s Mufti as chief minister

heading the government with the BJP had not been able to handle the Kashmir situation in the last four years

Owaisi said the BJP cannot run away from stopping cross-border terrorism and from stopping attacks on Army camps. “Because the BJP feels it is losing ground in the state, it has taken this decision (of pulling out support) to the PDP,” he said.

The Hyderabad MP reminded BJP leader Ram Madhav about ‘accountability’ as the BJP was also a part of the PDP government in the alliance in Jammu and Kashmir and therefore had to share responsibility for the situation in the state.

“I am with the people of Kashmir. I am with the country. Governments change. If I get a certificate for nationalism only if I say I am with Modi, I do not want such a certificate,” Owaisi said emphatically.
