President of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Wednesday sought to remind Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath that the fundamental right to life applies to Muslims too.

Owaisi said India should be governed according to the Constitution with rule of law and not sentiments of majority or minority which will lead to anarchy. “Fundamental right to life under Article 21 is for human beings (which includes Muslims also). Hope you understand,” Asaduddin Owaisi told chief minister Yogi Adityanath in a tweet.

The Hyderabad MP was responding to

what the Uttar Pradesh chief minister was quoted as saying, “We’ll provide protection to everyone, but it’s the responsibility of every individual, every community and every religion to respect each other’s sentiments. Humans are important and cows are also important. Both have their own roles in nature. Everyone should be protected.”

“If Prime Minister Narendra Modi really wants to honor his promise that the Constitution is India’s holy book, then he needs to stop the cow from becoming a cloak for the cowardice of men who hate their fellow citizens,” he said.
