Hyderabad: The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) is leaving no stone unturned in its campaign for the Malegaon and the Bhiwandi Municipal Corporation polls scheduled to be held on May 24. The party is contesting 37 seats in Malegaon and hopes to win a good number.

The party will be competing with Shiv Sena, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Indian National Congress (INC) and the Maharasthra Navnirman Sena (MNS). A total of 84 seats are divided into 21 wards and each ward will have four elected representatives. According to party sources, thousands had participated in two public meetings conducted by AlMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi at Malegaon, which is known for textile industry.

Apart from Owaisi, AIMIM legislators and Corporators from the city are campaigning in various wards of Malegaon. Two legislators from



Maharashtra – Imtiyaz Jaleel (Aurangabad central) and Waris Pathan (Byculla) are also joined the campaigning.

MIM has shown its presence here in 2012 Municipal elections where it had won a few seats and shared power with NCP.

The party is reaching to the voters through public meetings and ‘paidal daura’ (canvasing on foot). The party is also mulling about drafting measures to uplift the power-loom industries where thousands of youth are employed.

In Bhiwandi-Nizampura City Municipal Corporation the party has fielded candidates from 10 seats. Two days ago, AIMIM MLA from Nampally, Jaffer Hussain Mairaj had attended a public meeting here along with a few party workers. AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi had also paid a visit to Bhiwandi recently. The results for the elections will be announced on May 26.
