India and Cuba have signed two MoUs in the field of biotechnology, traditional medicine and homoeopathy. The agreements were inked following delegation-level talks between President Ram Nath Kovind and his Cuban counterpart Miguel Mario Díaz-Canel at Revolution Palace in Havana yesterday.

The two countries agreed to enhance cooperation in biotechnology, renewable energy and traditional medicine. Cuba also reiterated its support to India's candidature for a permanent seat in UN Security Council.

Earlier, giving a keynote speech at the Havana University, the President said, mutual respect and solidarity among developing countries form the core of South-South cooperation. He said,its success must encourage our developed country partners to see how best these modalities can be utilised by them as well. 

Mr Kovind also visited the Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology where he



saw PowerPoint Presentation on Cuban pharmaceutical industry. He paid tributes at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi. He also paid his respects to Cuban National Hero Jose Marti at his memorial at Revolution Square.

The President is in the Latin American country on the final leg of his three nation tour to Greece, Suriname and Cuba. He is accompanied by a delegation including Minister of state for steel Vishnu Deo Sai and two Members of parliament.

Briefing media on the conclusion of President's three-nation visit, Secretary(East) in the Ministry of External Affairs, Preeti Saran said, India has a strong, cordial and friendly relations with Cuba. She said, both countries are founding members of Non-Aligned Movement and have stood for South-South solidarity. She said, the two countries have collaborated very closely in United Nations and other forums.
