Hyderabad: In a tragic case of hit-and-run, a car ran over a two-year-old girl who was playing in front of her house at Saidabad early on Monday.
According to the police, A Chaitra was playing along the road near her house at Vishnu Nagar in Subramanyam Colony. Her father Raju, who owns a grocery store nearby, was busy with customers when a Suzuki WagonR mowed down Chaitra around 8.30 am. The vehicle was coming from Nalla Pochamma temple towards Laxmi Nagar. The driver fled.

“Chaitra was seriously injured on her head and other parts of the body. Customers

at the grocery and passersby rushed her to the hospital, where she was declared brought dead,” police said.

The police registered a case of negligence causing death under the Indian Penal Code and are investigating. They are also examining CCTV footage to identify the car. “Surveillance cameras in the area were dysfunctional, but we are looking at footage from cameras installed at other spots leading to the accident site,” the police said.

Chaitra’s body was shifted to Osmania General Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
