Hyderabad: In yet another accident involving a Metro Rail pillar, two persons were killed and four injured, one critically, after a car rammed a Metro Rail pillar near Chaitanyapuri under Saroornagar police station limits in the early hours of Thursday.

According to police, the car driver, Sai Kumar Goud (24), was in an inebriated condition with his blood alcohol concentration levels reading 250 mg/100 ml, instead of the permitted 30mg/100ml, when the accident occurred. Goud and five of his friends were on their way to a restaurant in Santoshnagar as part of his birthday celebrations around 2 am when Goud is believed to have lost control of the car and rammed the pillar, hitting a person who was sleeping on the median near the pillar as well.

While M Chaitanya (25), a resident of Mansoorabad, was killed on the spot, I Srinivas (24) of Vanasthalipuram died while being shifted to hospital. Chaitanya was working in Delhi Public School, while Srinivas was preparing for Group-I exams.

According to Saroornagar Inspector S Lingaiah, the group had visited a bar and

consumed liquor before heading to Santoshnagar in the car, which was registered in the name of Goud’s mother Madhavi. The accident occurred near Chaitanyapuri, just a few minutes from the bar.

“Goud noticed a car taking a sudden turn towards the left and to avoid hitting the car, he tilted the wheel to the right and lost control, with the car turning turtle and hitting the pillar,” Lingaiah said.

The injured persons were identified as Krishna Prasanna, Chakrapani and Chandra Reddy, all aged between 24 and 25 years. Krishna is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kothapet where his condition is stated to be critical. Ganesh, who was sleeping on the median, suffered injuries as well and he was admitted to Osmania General Hospital where doctors said he was out of danger.

Based on a complaint given by Srinivas’ brother, Srikanth, police have registered a case against Goud under various sections of Motor Vehicle Act. He was arrested and remanded in judicial custody. The two bodies were handed over to relatives after autopsy at OGH by evening.
