Three militants were reported killed in an ongoing operation in Srinagar on Saturday.

The security forces' operation launched on Saturday morning against two holed-up militants continues, as one civilian died after being hit by a vehicle at the site of clashes. Meanwhile, a policeman was shot at and injured in Pulwama by suspected militants.

The civilian, identified as Adil Ahmed, injured at the site of clashes was declared brought dead at Srinagar's Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) hospital. "A medical bulletin suggests the person died due to crush injury in a road accident at Noorbagh," said the police.

However, locals alleged Ahmad was hit by a vehicle of the security forces chasing the protesters. Meanwhile, the encounter, which started on Saturday morning,



is on, according to the police. One suspected militant is believed to be hit by bullets in the firing. The police have not confirm any casualties. One CRPF jawan was also injured in the exchange of fire.

A police official said two Lashkar-e-Taiba militants may be trapped in the cordoned off area of Chattabal, a congested locality in Srinagar.

The operation sparked protests near the encounter site and later spread to other parts of Srinagar, fuelling tension. Many markets that opened in the old city has closed down due to violent protests. High speed internet services on mobile has been suspended.

In a separate incident, one policeman, Showkat Ahmad Dar, was shot at by militants in Pulwama around 9:30 a.m. "The injured was shifted to a hospital," said the police.
