Smog situation improves in Delhi

Smog situation slightly improved in Delhi and adjoining areas today, but the poor air quality continues to affect the region. 

The Central Pollution Control Board said, the air quality index stood at 476 at 11 am. AQI ranges from 0 to 500, with 500 being the worst air quality. The pollution in the city worsened yesterday after a small respite over the previous two days. 

Delhi’s average air quality index was 460 on Sunday, rising close to the 9th of this month season-high of 486.Bright sunshine in morning removed a blanket of smog at Delhi and its adjoining areas. According to the MeT department, the visibility remained at 600 metres at 11 am and 300 to 500 metres at 5.30 this morning. 

MeT department said



there will be a clear sky during the day which may clear the prevailing smog condition in Delhi and NCR. Heavy smog prevailed in the region over the past week due to slow wind speeds, high moisture and the presence of other pollutants.

The rail, road and air traffic was affected due to mist. At the Indira Gandhi Airport, operations of about more than 60 flights were affected. 
According to the Northern Railways today 69 Delhi bound trains are reported to be running late, 28 trains have been rescheduled while 9 were cancelled.

Meanwhile, the Delhi government today will make a fresh push for odd-even road rationing, asking National Green Tribunal to exempt two-wheelers and cars driven by women from the plan.
