Rajya Sabha suspends question hour to take up issue of publication of draft NRC

The Rajya Sabha today suspended the question hour to take up the issue of the publication of the draft National Register of Citizens.  Initiating the discussion, leader of the Opposition Gulam Nabi Azad said the issue is relating to human rights affecting over 40 lakh people in Assam.  He said the issue should not be



politicized. 

He suggested that the onus of proving citizenship should be on the Government also and the concerned individual should be extended legal assistance.  Ram Gopal Yadav of Samajwadi Party said every person has a fundamental right to stay anywhere in the country.
