Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the pan-India expansion of flagship programme - Beti Bachao Beti Padhao - from Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan to mark the International Women's Day today. 

The programme will be expanded from the present 161 districts to 640 all over the country, giving a fillip to the government's initiative to save and educate the girl child. Mr Modi will also interact with beneficiary mothers and girl children during the programme, besides distributing certificates to best performing districts.

The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the National Nutrition Mission. The mission strives to reduce under-nutrition and low birth weight, bring down anaemia among young children, women and adolescent girls and reduce the prevalence of stunting among children.

Governments, NGOs and other organisations across the globe observe 8th March every year as International Women's Day. Here's more on the day which is

All the preparations have been completed for prime minister’s visit. More than 5000 police personnel have been deployed for security arrangements. More than 2 lakh people coming from more than 10 districts to attend PM’s public meeting. 

Chief Ministers of the neighbouring states have also been invited to participate in the programme. The programme will be broadcast in all Government run schools of the state. Prime Minister will felicitate District Collectors of 10 districts including Jhunjunu, which have shown excellent performance in implementing the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme. PM will also interact with beneficiary mothers and girl children of the programme.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani has said, the strength of women should be celebrated every day and not only on a particular occasion like the International Women's Day.
