BJP MLA from Rajasthan's Alwar, Banwari Lal Singhal, has sparked a controversy by alleging that Muslims are concentrating on producing more children, with the aim of outshining Hindus in India.

In a Facebook post, Singhal said: "Muslims are deliberately producing more children, aiming to corner Hindus in their own country to intent to rule India by 2030."Singhal confirmed on Monday that he uploaded the post on Sunday, but said he had no intentions to hurt sentiments of people. "I feel nothing is wrong in the statement. This is an observation inspired by a Hindu saint who believes that Muslims have a history of taking over countries where their population goes beyond 30%," he said.

Singhal, in response to a debate on a TV channel discussing population of Muslims, had posted on Facebook: "The unchecked

rise of the Muslim population in the future is bound to have a Muslim prime minister, Muslim president, and the community will have chief ministers in most of the states."

The MLA further alleged that Muslims are 'buying women' from Bihar and Bengal to increase their headcounts.

In the hateful post that went viral on Facebook, the MLA further says, "Hindus are giving birth to only one or two children, while Muslims give birth to 12-13 children and have no worries about their education."The post received sharp criticism and sparked a row in Alwar district.

Muslim factions and social groups have demanded an apology from Singhal.

Singhal's controversial statement comes ahead of bypolls to Alwar Lok Sabha seat on January 29.
