Karnataka election: 2655 candidates remain in fray for 224 assembly consitituencies

In Karnataka, 2655 candidates, including 219 women are left in the fray in 224-member assembly elections after the final withdrawal of nominations. The polling in the state will be held on 12th of next month. 

According to a data from the state Chief Electoral Office, 583 candidates withdrew their candidatures and 271 nominations were rejected during the scrutiny. While the BJP is contesting in all the 224 segments, Congress has nominated its candidates in 222 segments and Janata Dal-Secular in 201, 1,155 Independents are contesting and 800 from other national, regional and fringe parties.

Mulbagal constituency in the state's Kolar district has the highest number of 39 candidates while Challakere in Chitradurga district has least number of four candidates in fray.The counting of votes will take place on 15th of next



month

"BJP national President Amit Shah is campaigning in Bagalkote and Vijayapura, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will begin his state wide campaign from Belagavi and JD(S) state President H D Kumaraswamy will campaign in Chintamani today. 

Union Defence minister Nirmala Sitaraman will Mahila Jagruthi interaction programme in Bengaluru today. The Election Model of Conduct is enforced all over the state and Flying Squad teams have seized cash worth over 40 crore rupees and booked 553 cases. 

The state-owned Mysore Paints and Varnish company has supplied one lakh 32 thousand vials of indelible ink for the forthcoming assembly election. The Chairman of the company Venkatesh informed that each vial contains 10 ml of indelible ink and can be used to mark the fingers of 800 voters.
