Government convenes an All Party Meeting today

Government has convened an all party meeting in New Delhi today ahead of the Monsoon session of Parliament beginning tomorrow. 

During the meeting, the Centre will seek Opposition's support for the smooth conduct of proceedings in both the Houses.

Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan has also called an all-party meet in the evening to seek the co-operation from the floor leaders of different political parties to ensure smooth transaction of business in the House.

Leaders of Opposition parties met in the national capital yesterday to formulate a joint strategy to corner the government on various issues during the session. Ghulam Nabi Azad from the Congress, Sharad Pawar from NCP, Satish Chandra Misra from the



BSP, Misa Bharti of RJD, TKS Elangovan of DMK and Mohammed Salim of CPI-M were among those who attended the meeting.

Later, talking to reporters, Mr Azad said, all parties which attended the meeting want to see that both the houses run smoothly. The Monsoon session, which will have 18 sittings, will continue till the 10th of next month. Triple Talaq Bill, which has been passed by the Lok Sabha and is pending in the Rajya Sabha, will be among the top priorities of the government during the session. The government will also push for constitutional status for the National Commission for OBCs. Bills, including on National Commission for Medical Education and Transgenders, will also be taken up during the session.
