The internet was recently abuzz with a picture of a man having an uncanny resemblance to the legendary actor Amjad Khan who immortalised himself when he essayed the role of a ruthless and a dreaded village looting decoit Gabbar Singh in Ramesh Sippy's classic Sholay in 1975.
It was reported by many mainstream media houses that Gabbar Singh aka Amjad Khan's lookalike was spotted shopping at a busy market in Karachi. This piece of information is misleading social media users as the picture of the man, who has qualified himself to be called as Amjad Khan's doppelganger, was taken at Bara Bazaar in Kolkata and had surfaced on July 28-29.
The confusion started when a Twitter user named Shahjahan Khurram with id @91Shahji, who claims to be a journalist in his bio, tweeted the photo on July 31 with a caption that reads, "This picture of a man in #Karachi bearing a stark resemblance to popular Bollywood villain Gabbar Singh is doing the rounds on social media."
The same picture was posted two days earlier by a user named ARWATCH with a Twitter id @OrdinaryMan25 on July 29. If you closely observe and juxtapose the two pictures, you will easily figure out that the image posted by Khurram had been edited and sharpened with the help

of the basic image sharpening option available in various photo editing software.
Another picture of Gabbar Singh's lookalike was posted on July 28 by a Facebook user from Kolkata (going by the bio). According to the user, the picture was taken near Dakshineswara temple in Kolkata. After taking a closer look at the picture, you can see that the text on the shop's banner is written in Bengali.
A leading Bengali News Portal Kolkata24x7 had carried a story about Gabbar Singh's lookalike after he created a fan frenzy among the devotees in the temple. The report said that the man, who refused to disclose his identity to the media, was mobbed by people to click photographs but they couldn't as devotees need to submit their mobile phones to the security guards before entering the temple.
The man had revealed that it took him a lot of hard work to gain Gabbar Singh like physique right from his hair to his beard to his facial features to his body type. When he was asked his name, he replied in a quirky way, "What will be gained by knowing my name? You must be very courageous to ask Gabbar Singh's name."
He even rhymed the popular Gabbar Singh dialogue "line mein kitna aadmi hai re" while standing in a queue at the temple.
