A Delhi court has declared liquor businessman Vijay Mallya a proclaimed offender for evading summons in a Foreign Exchange Regulation Act, FERA violation case. Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Deepak Sherawat passed the order yesterday after noting that Mallya failed to appear before it despite repeated summons and no representation was made on

his behalf, therefore he is declared to be a proclaimed offender.

The court had in April last year issued an open-ended non-bailable warrant against the liquor baron. In November 2016, the court had observed that Mallya had no inclination to return and had scant regard for the law of the land.
