A fireman killed and more than 40 persons suffered burn injuries in an LPG cylinder blast due to fire at a bakery shop in the State capital here.

Police sources here at the headquarters on Sunday said that fire service personnel came to douse a fire that broke out at Murugan Hot Chips in the city during late Saturday night.

When the 56-year old fireman Egaraj was fighting to control the fire, a gas cylinder in the bakery suddenly exploded. Egaraj, who



sustained severe burn injuries, died on
the way to the hospital.

The 48 injured persons including three firemen were admitted to Kilpauk Medical College and Stanley government hospital. Initial investigation revealed short circuit was behind the fire mishap. 

Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami announced financial assistance of Rs 13 lakh to Egaraj family. He also announced solatium of Rs 50,000 to the seriously injured persons.
