North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has reaffirmed his commitment to complete de-nuclearisation of the Korean peninsula and to a planned meeting with US President Donald Trump.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in said at a news conference in Seoul yesterday that Kim made the remarks at a surprise meeting held between the two leaders. Moon said, he and Kim agreed that the North Korea-US summit must be held.

The South Korean President said, he told Kim that the US is ready to terminate hostilities against the North and offer economic

aid if Pyongyang completely denuclearises. However, Mr Moon said, Kim was not certain whether Washington could guarantee the stability of his regime.

Trump had cancelled the 12th of next month's summit, citing the North's hostility. But yesterday he said, the date has not changed and things are moving along very nicely.

The White House said, an advance team of officials would leave for Singapore this weekend, as originally scheduled, to prepare for the possible summit.
