JOHOR BARU: A couple pleaded not guilty in the magistrate's court here to cheating almost RM600,000 from a businesswoman in a bogus investment deal in Saudi Arabia.
Sheikh Saidey Nor Sheikh Abdul Rahman, 43, and his wife Sofia Affendi, 41, were each charge with two counts of cheating and abetting before magistrate Mohd Azlan Shah Mohd Allias Tuesday.
They are alleged to have cheated Raja Farhana Raja Ali, 35, out of RM314,535 and RM282,616.73 at a restaurant in Bandar Baru Uda between 8.30pm and 11.30pm in April, 2015.
The amount was purportedly for



investments in Mecca and Madinah.

Sheikh Saidey Nor was charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating, which carries a maximum 10 years in jail, a whipping and a fine upon conviction.
Sofia was charged under Sections 109 and 420 of the same Act for abetting and cheating.
They pleaded not guilty to the charges and Mohd Azlan set bail at RM90,000 each.
He also ordered Sheikh Sadey Nor and Sofia to surrender their passports before setting Feb 7 for next mention.
DPP Muhammad Mohd Nor prosecuted the case while the couple was unrepresented.
