A Chinese "rooftopper" fell to his death from the 62nd floor of a skyscraper as he performed one of his stunts.

Wu Yongning, 26, gained thousands of followers online after filming himself climbing tall buildings without safety equipment.

Local media reports say Mr Yongning was taking part in a challenge in order to win a significant cash prize. A clip circulating on social media appeared to show the moment he fell from the building.

A family member told reporters he was competing for

an £11,000 (100,000 yuan) pay-off, although the exact nature of the competition remained unclear.

His uncle told the South China Morning Post: "He planned to propose to his girlfriend the day after the challenge.

"He needed the money for the wedding, and for medical treatment for his mother."

"Rooftopping" - climbing tall buildings without safety equipment - has become increasingly popular across the world over the past few years including in the UK.
