China received 147 million visitors during the three-day Labour Day holiday, grossing a total of US$13.73bn in revenue, said the Ministry of Culture and Tourism on Tuesday.
The results represent an increase of 10.2 percent in revenue and 9.3 percent in terms of visitors compared to 2017, reports news outlet China.com.
Based on data from the Tongcheng International travel agency, the 10 most popular destinations during the holiday period were Sanya in Hainan Province; Xiamen in Fujian; Lijiang, Dali and Kunming in Yunnan; Guilin in Guangxi; Chengdu in Sichuan; Urumqi in Xinjiang; Beijing and the eastern city of Shanghai.
Hainan Province

was also named the 'most popular province’ among domestic tourists, according to statistics from Ctrip, an online booking platform.
Last month, China released a package of favourable policies to attract foreign tourists to Hainan, such as letting citizens from 59 countries enter the tropical island province without a visa.
Southeast Asia remains the most favoured destination for outbound tourism. Tropical islands such as Koh Samui in Thailand, Bali in Indonesia, Sabah in Malaysia and Cebu in the Philippines remain popular among China’s Labour Day travellers.
This year, China’s Labour Day holiday began on April 30 and ended on May 1.
