China has finally acknowledged the visit of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and his meeting with President Xi Jinping in Beijing. 

State-run Xinhua news agency reported today that Kim paid a four-day unofficial visit from Sunday to Wednesday at the invitation of the President.Kim reportedly arrived in China by a special train from across the border and left in the same train. 

China said Kim has pledged to denuclearise the Korean peninsula. Kim said the issue of denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula can be resolved, if South Korea and the United States respond to North Korea's efforts with goodwill, create an atmosphere of peace and stability, according to Xinhua.

Mr Jinping promised China would uphold its friendship with its isolated neighbour.The trip



was Kim's first known journey abroad since he assumed power in 2011.

During the visit, which was kept under wraps, Xi held talks with Kim at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Xi and his wife Peng Liyuan held a welcoming banquet for Kim and his wife Ri Sol Ju and watched an art performance together.

Xi reportedly said that China was willing to work with Noth Korea to promote long-term, healthy and stable relations.

Meanwhile, China briefed President Donald Trump on the visit by North Korean leader Kim, and the communication included a personal message from Chinese President Xi Jinping to Mr Trump. 

White House said in a statement the US remains in close contact with their allies South Korea and Japan.
