The Telangana State Waqf Board has set up special teams on Monday to speed up collection of rent arrears from thousands of Waqf properties and Waqf funds.

Official sources say tenants who owe several lakhs of rupees to the board are citing various excuses to evade payment of rent arrears.

After having found that most tenants have not been paying rents for several years, Waqf board

chairman Mohammad Saleem, in the monthly review meeting, expressed discontentment over the lackadaisical approach in collection of rents and funds, and directed chief executive officer Mannan Farooqui to form special teams. 15 employees will be included in three teams of five.

“The special drive will go on for about 25 days, across Hyderabad and Rangareddy districts,” a Waqf official said.
