Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s ambitious programmes — ‘KCR Kits Scheme’ and ‘Single Women Pension’ — aimed at extending financial assistance to pregnant women and deserted single women from the poorer sections of society respectively, will be formally launched on June 2, the State’s Formation Day.

Announcing this at the District Collectors conference at Pragathi Bhavan here on Monday, the Chief Minister urged the district officials to give equal priority to both the schemes. “The KCR Kits Scheme, which is also aimed at encouraging institutional deliveries, would help poor pregnant women in both the pre and post-natal stages. The scheme was conceived after studying a similar scheme in vogue in Tamil Nadu. It is

unfortunate that poor pregnant women often go to their daily wage work even during advanced stages of pregnancy. The scheme will help pregnant woman financially during her days of pregnancy as also after delivery,” he said.

Instructing the district Collectors to accord top priority for the implementation of the scheme, he said it should also result in increase in number of institutional deliveries. “For registering the names of pregnant women, enlist the services of ANMs and extract work from them.

Registration should begin before the 12th week of pregnancy. According to data available, 6.5 lakh deliveries take place in the State. Institutional deliveries should increase through the KCR Kits Scheme,” the Chef Minister said.
