Wed 30 Aug 2017, 11:57:49
The Telangana State Road Transportation Corporation (TSRTC) may add 1,500 new buses to its existing fleet. The transport department will soon send proposals to the chief minister, requesting him to sanction funds.

The announcement was made by transport minister P Mahender Reddy at a TSRTC review meeting, held in the city on Tuesday .While pointing out that the TSRTC, which operates 96 depots across the state, is presently running at an annual loss of `480 crore, he asserted that officials were now working towards making the corporation profitable.

“Since mini-buses are yielding good results, procuring mini buses as part of the new additions will be a priority . With a 0.07 accident ratio, TSRTC is among the top bus service systems across several states, including Andhra

Pradesh,“ said Reddy , while asking RTC officials to prepare an action plan in order to ensure that TSRTC buses ply to every village in the state.

Only 27 TSRTC-run depots, including those in Karimnagar and Rangareddy regions, are now profitable. Meanwhile, 56 have been reported to be incurring losses. Out of these, depots in Mahbubnagar and Medak have been worst hit.“Only three depots are running in severe losses while the others are now trying to become profitable,“ said Reddy .
The `Vajra' bus services, which have been raking in profits, will soon be expanded to Karimnagar and Ramagundam.“We are presently studying the possibility of implementing the Mumbai transport model here, linking all metro stations to the city , will be developed,“ said Reddy .
