Transport Minister P Mahender Reddy informed that the TSRTC is suffering a loss of Rs 1.5 crore every day. While corporation was getting Rs 10 crore as revenue, the expenditure is Rs 11.5 crore, he informed.

Mahender Reddy along with Finance and Civil Supplies Minister Etela Rajender and RTC Chairman Somarapu Satyanarayana laid foundation stones for various developmental works in Karimnagar, Jagtial, Peddapalli districts on Sunday. They also planted trees in bus stands.
Laying foundation stone for moderanisation works in Karimnagar, he said despite the loss, RTC was operating services in all routes to provide transportation facility to rural people and the corporation was ready to operate buses to every village where there was road facility. Informing that the Telangana government has laid roads to all villages, Reddy said that buses have been operated to each and every village where there was no bus facility earlier. Still, there is no bus facility to 1,200 villages, he informed.

Unlike earlier, the Chief Minister K Chandrasekahar Rao allocated Rs 1,000 crore in the budget for corporation. This year, 1,400 new buses were purchased by spending Rs 350 crore, he

informed. Rs 14 crore were sanctioned for the modernisation of bus stands in Karimnagar. Of that, finance department allocated Rs 10 crore while the remaining  Rs 4 crore by RTC.

Rajender made it clear that there was no question of privatising RTC and government was ready to extend financial support to the corporation. State government was not treating RTC as a profit making business and it is being considered as a service. Corporate level facilities would be provided in all bus stations in Karimnagar in the coming six months, he said.

“Every year, corporation is suffering Rs 1,000 crore as loss including Rs 500 crore through Pallevelugu services and another Rs 500 cr by Hyderabad city buses. Though we are operating services to rural areas, people, except students are not showing interest to travel in RTC buses,” RTC chairman said. In a view to enhance revenue, RTC lands have been leased out to private persons for 33 years lease period, he added. Informing that MPs and MLAs were coming forward to contribute amount from their funds for the development of the bus stations and others, he sought help from more number of public representatives.
