The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) in coordination with traffic police has put up barricades between the Secretariat and Indira Gandhi Statue enroute NTR Garden for two-wheelers and fourwheelers to conduct sewer line repair works.

All vehicles proceeding towards Khairatabad flyover, IMAX theatre and Mint Compound were diverted.Water Board officials said that they would replace a sewerage main trunk that goes on to a length of 1.5 kilometres. On September 21, 2016, a road in front of NTR Garden caved in and it was found later that a decade-old sewer trunk main had leaked that triggered the collapse.

As a result, traffic had gone haywire for five days on this stretch. Later, the Water Board repaired the stretch and restored traffic.

The Water Board has taken the help of traffic police to put up the barricades. Now, two-wheelers and four-wheelers are being allowed in two separate lines on the same stretch, so that, heavy load of vehicles on the road can be avoided, he said.

The restrictions will continue till the Ganesh immersions. “We will not allow the larged-sized Ganesh idols on this stretch. The road may cave in due to the heavy cranes. The Khairatabad Ganesh idol will be allowed on the Lumbini Park stretch,“ according to a traffic policeman at Saifabad.
