Hyderabad: Telangana has been ranked fourth in cases relating to cyber crimes and crime against women in 2016, according to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). In the annual publication of NCRB ‘Crime in India 2016’ released on Thursday in New Delhi, the State is ranked sixth with respect to economic offences and seventh for crime against senior citizens and tenth for murders.

Computer related offences along with tampering computer source of document, publication of obscene or sexually exploit act in electronic form and breach of confidentiality among others topped the number of cyber crime cases registered in 2016.

With respect to crime against women, dowry deaths, abetment of suicide of woman, cruelty by her husband or relatives, kidnapping woman and



abduction of woman compelling her for marriage were among the major cases booked, according to NCRB.

Officials said more number of people were coming forward to lodge complaint with the police to get justice. Earlier, people used to hesitate to visit a police station and lodge a complaint because of various reasons.

But the situation has now changed with the police department laying more focus on people-friendly policing. At several police stations, a help desk was set up to guide the complainants. This has enabled many people to visit police stations and lodge complaint resulting in increase in number of cases.

An official said the department was equipping itself with the latest technology to deal with cyber crime cases.
