Asifabad: Top police officers in the State toured Jainoor, Lingapur and Sirpur (U) mandals on Monday and organised peace meetings with elders of Lambada and Adivasi communities in over 40 villages of the three mandals to restore peace.

The officers include Warangal Range Inspector General Y Nagireddy, Karimnagar Range Deputy Inspector General P Pramod Kumar, Ramagundam Commissioner of Police Vikram Jeet Duggal and newly posted Superintendent of Police Kamaleshwar Shingenawar.

During the meetings, Nagireddy said nothing could be achieved through violence due to which problems would be augmented further. He cautioned that stern action would be taken against those who instigate violence.

The IPS officers advised tribals not to

believe in rumours and refrain from damaging properties of others. They said section 144 would be in force in agency areas till rift between the two groups was resolved. They sought the cooperation of elders and leaders of various Adivasi and Lambada community organisations in bringing the situation under control.

The tribal leaders belonging to both Adivasis and Lambadas assured that they would take steps to prevent recurrence of violent incidents. They informed that they were provoked by certain persons when they were taking out a rally. They asserted that cops were taking up a slew of community-reach programmes in tribal habitations and were providing basic amenities in interior parts by laying roads, organising medical camps and reducing dropout rates in schools.
