Senior officials of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) on Monday jointly conducted inspections with Hyderabad MP, Asaduddin Owaisi, to take stock of the problems of water supply in parts of Old City.

A key concern which was brought to the attention of HMWSSB managing director, M Dana Kishore, by Owaisi, was the inadequate amount of water supplied by the Mir Alam and Aliabad ground-level service reservoirs. An estimated 12,000 houses are said to have been affected by the shortage of water.

Owaisi said, “It is important that the 25 mgd is supplied to Mir Alam and another 9 mdg to Aliabad.“He added that the civic body has agreed to improve the supply of water to the areas in the future.

Explaining the issue, Kishor said water supply was disrupted on account of

repair works in the line. This had led to a reduced supply of water to the areas. He said, “the 25 mdg at Mir Alam and the 9 mgd at Aliabad service reservoirs have been restored a few days ago. We will continue this, as this is the amount of water required in these areas.“

The parliamentarian urged HMWSSB to expedite the process of cleaning of the sewers in as many as 18 neighbourhoods. These include Talabkatta, Nasheman Nagar, Akram Nagar, Aman nagar, Ramnaspura, Ganga Nagar, Edi Bazaar and Bahadurpura, among others.

It was earlier reported in these columns that the residents of the Pathergatti division -which include neighbourhoods such as Alauddin Masjid, Ghouse Nagar and Kalyan Nawab Deodhi -have been receiving polluted water. Owaisi asked HMWSSB to lay new pipelines to tackle this issue.
