Residents heaved a sigh of relief on Thursday, as sudden showers accompanied with thunderstorm and gusty winds lashed parts of the city.

While meteorologists attributed the sudden downpour to formation of cumulonimbus clouds and not to the onset of southwest monsoon, the showers brought the temperature down to 40.1 degree Celsius by evening .

Heavier spells of rain were reported from the outskirts of the city, with Shadnagar recording 42 mm of rainfall and Patancheru 53.5

mm.

“Thunderstorm accompanied with gusty winds very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Jaya Shankar Bhupalapalle, Warangal, Jangaon, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Khammam and Badradri Kothagudem of Telangana,” read the IMD warning.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department warned that rains will continue for the next three days. The South-West monsoon was likely to hit the State on June 3, but it looks like it arrived three days earlier than expected date of June 7, said IMD officials.
